Essential Music of the Holocaust: History and Hope

Expand your knowledge of the music that came out of this period with

one of the pre-eminent Jewish music scholars of our time.

 

The Colorado Hebrew Chorale is offering two preparatory rehearsals on Monday July 9 & 16, at 7:30PM at the Hebrew Educational Alliance (HEA), 3600 S Ivanhoe, Denver CO. -Community Presentation on Sunday July 22, 2012 – an educational presentation of the materials learned, with additional numbers performed by the Colorado Hebrew Chorale.

Singers kosher/vegetarian dinner 5:30PM, singers call at 6PM, presentation begins at 7PM at HEA

 

Workshop fee: $36 includes choral scores and refreshments (free for middle and high school students)

We Hung Up Our Harps: Rabbinic Attitudes towards Music.  Two thousand years ago the music of the Jewish liturgy involved an orchestra and a choir. This session will examine Rabbinic texts to understand on why this has changed

Join us in January 2012 for SHIRU! - “SING! “, our next participatory  workshop with Boston-based composer, author and conductor Nick Page. Best known for his song-leading, Nick draws upon songs from many cultures to create a powerful instant choir for all ages and abilities.

This workshop includes two preparatory rehearsals with the Colorado Hebrew Chorale on

Monday January 2 and 9, 2012,

at the Hebrew Educational Alliance, 3600 S Ivanhoe, Denver CO, 80237 at 7:30PM.

 THEN

On Thursday, January 12, 2012, 5:30PM, we will meet at Bnai Havurah, 6445 East Ohio, Denver, CO, 80224.

The evening will begin with a pot-luck dinner with the composer – a unique opportunity to socialize.

At 6:15PM, Nick will work with the singers on the pieces of his music that we have prepared.

Then, at 7PM, the doors open to the community and we will perform and participate in an evening of multicultural singing, led by Nick.

Join us on Sunday, December 4, 2011, at 7 PM, at the Mizel Museum, 400 South Kearny St, Denver CO.

We offer an improvisatory singers’ workshop with Basya Schechter, the acclaimed singer, songwriter and bandleader of Pharaoh’s Daughter, a renowned world music group that blends Chasidic niggunim and pan-Mediterranean sensuality.

In the first Half Basya will work with us on several of her songs. The second half will be a percussion workshop – please bring any drums and hand percussion instruments you may have.
