Leah Peer

Founder and Music Director, Kol Nashim

The Treble Voice Choir of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale

Leah Peer was motivated to found Kol Nashim in 2013 as a means of exploring treble-voice repertoire and attracting new singers and audiences to the Colorado Hebrew Chorale experience. Under her direction, Kol Nashim has commissioned and performed several new works for treble voices, including music by local women composers.

Ms. Peer has been an active performing pianist for nearly forty years. She has established several chamber ensembles around the U.S., including the Autos Duo in Buffalo, New York, with flutist Eileen Yu, and most recently Duo Firebird with cellist Daria Joanna.

Ms. Peer established a choral and general music program over the course of eight years at the Kadimah School of Buffalo, N.Y. Her students and choirs participated with distinction in festivals under the aegis of the American Choral Directors Association and the New York State Schools Music Association. She also served as assistant director with Amherst Bel Canto select choirs in Buffalo, N.Y. Most recently, in 2021 she launched, and continues to direct, the HEA High Holiday Choir.

Ms. Peer holds an M. Mus degree in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and a B. Mus in piano performance from the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, Israel. She has sung with the Colorado Hebrew Chorale since 2007, and currently is an ex-officio member of its board of directors.
